Durable Solutions Assistance in Afghanistan (Jan–July 2025)
Durable Solutions Assistance in Afghanistan (Jan–July 2025): From January to July 2025, members of the National Durable Solutions Working Group (N-DSWG), under the leadership of the DSRSG/RC/HC and the UN and NGOs shared leadership at the Afghanistan Durable Solutions Steering Group, reached 7.8 million people across 33 provinces with life-sustaining and resilience-building support valued at US$124.9 million. Assistance focused on restoring access to livelihoods, essential services, housing, land and property rights, protection, and social cohesion for returnees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and host communities with pre-existing vulnerabilities and lacking absorption capacity. Grounded in the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Durable Solutions Framework and aligned with national strategic priorities, this collective effort advances a whole-of-displacement, community-centric, area-based approach that bridges humanitarian, development and peace interventions — helping displaced and returning Afghans move from emergency assistance toward sustainable, long-term solutions.
